Orientation, solar energy transmittance and lambda value
In Burgenland, energy performance certificates are relevant to many new buildings, alterations, sales, lettings and funding applications. We prepare certificates for homes, flats and non-residential buildings.
A building’s orientation tells you which direction its windows and façades face. This matters because sunlight through south-facing windows can help warm a room in winter, but it can also make it too hot in summer. Good shading makes a difference. The solar energy transmittance (g-value) tells you how much of the sun’s energy passes through the glass into the room. A lower g-value lets in less solar heat; a higher one lets in more. The lambda value describes how easily heat passes through an individual building material. The lower the value, the better that material insulates. What matters in practice is how the glazing, insulation and construction work together.
What is calculated?
An energy certificate records calculated building energy demand, including heating demand and the overall efficiency factor. For a new building, these values can guide decisions on the building envelope and building services during design.
Certificates for renovation
For thermal renovations, the existing and proposed condition may need to be assessed separately. Depending on the subsidy, further figures such as the OI3 environmental indicator can be relevant. The requirements depend on the measures and the funding programme.
Documents and registration
Plans, sections, information about walls and roofs, window data and heating and hot-water systems form the basis. Some procedures require registration in ZEUS Burgenland. We check what is necessary for the particular project.
